What is Reiki & Karuna Reiki®?

 

Reiki and Karuna Reiki® are forms of complementary health care practices, which have been found to enhance the body's ability to heal itself.  

 

What Reiki & Karuna Reiki is not:

 

Your practitioner is not a licensed physician, and Reiki/Karuna Reiki does not require licensing by the state.  They are meant to be a complement to “healing arts services licensed by the state”; i.e., they are a complement to traditional Western medicine provided by doctors, nurses, and other licensed medical professionals. 

 

Theory of Treatment

 

Stress, trauma and illness restrict the natural flow of ki (chi) or “life force energy” through the body. By restoring the flow of life force energy through the body, Reiki rejuvenates the body’s ability to relax and, therefore, supports the body’s ability to heal itself.  

 

Although one session may be adequate, long-term imbalances in the body sometimes require multiple treatments in order to allow the body to reach the level of relaxation necessary to bring the system back into balance.  Improvement often requires commitment on the client’s part (e.g., willingness to make lifestyle changes) in order to fully benefit from Reiki treatment(s).  

 

Nature of the Services Provided

 

During an In-person Reiki/Karuna Reiki® session, the client is asked to lie or sit down.  He/She remains fully clothed during the treatment session.  The majority of the session will involve the practitioner holding his/her hands about 2-3 inches above the client’s body.  If guided to do so, the practitioner will ask permission to place his/her hands on your body but only in a manner acceptable to you and within the legal limits of his/her practice as a Reiki/Karuna Reiki® Practitioner.  If you are receiving a distance healing, Nicole will conduct the session in the same manner following the use of the Usui Reiki Distance Symbol. Your goal is to be as relaxed as possible, but if you are unable to rest in a quiet space, it will not hinder your session whatsoever.

 

Once the session begins, the practitioner allows the life force energy to flow through his/her hands, which may be experienced by the client as heat, coolness, vibrating, tingling, a light pressure, a slight pulling sensation, or nothing at all.  The Practitioner may also use other hands-off techniques, such as sweeping the body of unneeded energy or using vocal tones to break up energy blocks.  The practitioner is simply a conduit or channel of the life force energy.  It is believed that the energy is guided by God/Source/Spirit for the physical, mental, emotional, and/or spiritual well-being of the client.  Therefore, a specific outcome cannot be guaranteed by the Reiki/Karuna Reiki® Practitioner.

DECLARATIONS: This Agreement is entered into between Higashi Health and Wellness, Inc. (“HH&W”) and the undersigned (“Client”). The provision of services by HH&W to Client, and Client’s use of any premises, facilities or equipment are contingent upon this Agreement.

 

ASSUMPTION OF RISK: You agree that if you engage in any physical exercise or activity or enter our premises or use any facility or equipment on our premises for any purpose, you do so at your own risk and assume the risk of any and all injury and/or damage you may suffer, whether while engaging in physical exercise or not. This includes injury or damage sustained while and/or resulting from using any premises or facility, or using any equipment, whether provided to you by HH&W or otherwise, including injuries or damages arising out of the negligence of HH&W, whether active or passive, or any of HH&W’s affiliates, employees, agents, representatives, successors, and assigns. Your assumption of risk includes, but is not limited to, your use of any exercise equipment (mechanical or otherwise), sidewalks, parking lots, stairs, lobby or other general areas of any facilities, or any equipment. You assume the risk of your participation in any activity, class, program, instruction, or event, including but not limited to walking, jogging, running, aerobic activities, or any other sporting or recreational endeavor. You agree that you are voluntarily participating in the aforementioned activities and assume all risk of injury, illness, damage, or loss to you or your property that might result, including, without limitation, any loss or theft of any personal property, whether arising out of the negligence of HH&W or otherwise. 

 

RELEASE: You agree on behalf of yourself (and all your personal representatives, heirs, executors, administrators, agents, and assigns) to release and discharge HH&W (and HH&W’s affiliates, related entities, employees, agents, representatives, successors, and assigns) from any and all claims or causes of action (known or unknown) arising out of the negligence of HH&W, whether active or passive, or any of HH&W’s affiliates, employees, agents, representatives, successors, and assigns. This waiver and release of liability includes, without limitation, injuries which may occur as a result of (a) your use of any equipment or facilities which may malfunction or break, (b) improper maintenance of any equipment, premises or facilities, (c) negligent instruction or supervision, including fitness exercises, (d) negligent hiring or retention of employees, and/or (e) slipping or tripping and falling while on any portion of a premises or while traveling to or from fitness class or individual training, including injuries resulting from HH&W’s or anyone else’s negligent inspection or maintenance of the facility or premises. 

 

INDEMNIFICATION: By execution of this agreement, you hereby agree to indemnify and hold harmless HH&W from any loss, liability, damage, or cost you may incur due to the provision activities by HH&W to you. 

 

ACKNOWLEDGMENTS: You expressly agree that the foregoing release, waiver, assumption of risk and indemnity agreement is intended to be as broad and inclusive as permitted by the law in the State of California and that if any portion thereof is held invalid, it is agreed that the balance shall, notwithstanding, continue in full legal force and effect. You acknowledge that HH&W offers a service to his/her clients encompassing the entire recreational and/or fitness spectrum. HH&W is not in the business of selling exercise equipment or other such products to the public, and the use of such items is incidental to the service provided by HH&W. You acknowledge and agree that HH&W does not place such items into the stream of commerce. This release is not intended as an attempted release of claims of gross negligence or intentional acts. 

 

You acknowledge that you have carefully read this waiver and release and fully understand that it is a release of liability, express assumption of risk and indemnity agreement. You are aware and agree that by executing this waiver and release, you are giving up your right to bring a legal action or assert a claim against HH&W for HH&W’s negligence, or for any defective product used while participating in any activity from HH&W. You have read and voluntarily signed the waiver and release and further agree that no oral representations, statements, or inducement apart from the foregoing written agreement have been made.
